A complete collection of UK phonecards should include the cards issued by the smaller companies which appeared after de-regulation of the telecommunications sector. Such a company was International Payphones Ltd and International Payphones (Scotland) Ltd International Payphones Ltd installed their first telephone booths in January 1990 at the Elephant & Castle Shopping Precinct in London and in several hospitals. The cards were on general sale and were supplied by Autelca. The call value left on the cards was stored on magnetic strips on the rear. The company ceased trading in 1991. |
